Resourceful Living the Pura Livin Way: Creative, Healthy, and Joyful

There’s something so fulfilling about stretching what you already have—not out of lack, but from a place of intention and creativity. Pura Livin is all about living with heart, health, and harmony. That means slowing down, using your hands, thinking outside the box, and finding joy in the process—not just the outcome.

Whether it’s giving new life to old clothes, borrowing instead of buying, or turning veggie scraps into a nourishing soup, there are so many ways to live well—without waste. It’s resourceful, healthy, and often surprisingly fun.

This is a fun one for me to share for sure as this is a big part of me and what I'm about1

REUSE & REPURPOSE

Clothing:

Turn old jeans into cute totes or gardening aprons.

Crop long tees or sweaters into summer layers.

Use fabric scraps or worn-out clothes to make reusable cloths, produce bags, or cozy headbands.

Kitchen:

Reuse glass jars for pantry storage, dressings, sprouting seeds, or even indoor herb gardens.

Save veggie scraps (think onion peels, carrot tops, celery ends) to make flavorful homemade broth.

Propagate herbs! Many herbs like basil, mint, and oregano can be rooted in water and planted to grow new life again and again.

Home:

Give furniture a second chance. I’ve refinished so many pieces in my own home using chalk paint—it’s easy to use, requires no sanding, and adds charm and character.

Repurpose a wooden ladder into a vertical plant stand or blanket rack.

Old crates make great wall shelves or garden organizers.

FIX, BORROW, GIVE

Fix:

Mend small tears or loose buttons instead of tossing the item.

Touch up scuffed furniture with a bit of chalk paint or wood polish.

Simple fixes around the house build confidence—and save money.

Borrow:

Borrow tools, appliances, or specialty items through neighborhood groups or Facebook communities.

Use your local library for books, audiobooks, and even DVDs or puzzles.

Host a "borrow box" with friends for party supplies or seasonal decor.

Give:

Pass along clothes or household items you’re no longer using.

Share your sourdough, garden veggies, or soup made from scratch with a neighbor.

Giving creates connection—and that’s a big part of Pura Livin.

MAKE & REDESIGN

Food:

Cook based on what you already have—think soup, stir-fry, or grain bowls.

I reuse veggie scraps for homemade broth often, then freeze it for later meals.

Sourdough discard can be turned into crackers, pancakes, or even flatbreads.

Grow herbs from cuttings and keep your indoor garden growing year-round.

Body + Self-Care:

Make your own sugar scrub with coconut oil and herbs from your garden.

Use dried lavender or mint in homemade bath sachets or foot soaks.

Redesign old accessories—turn a broken necklace into an anklet, or old buttons into cute earring studs.

Clothing/Accessories:

Upcycle older pieces with a little embroidery, patchwork, or fabric paint.

Redesign an oversized shirt into a wrap top or beach cover-up.

Not sure how? The internet is full of tutorials to walk you through anything you’re curious about—whether it's refinishing a chair, making a pillow cover, or growing green onions from scraps.

Why This Is Pura Livin

This kind of resourceful, intentional living is at the heart of the Pura Livin lifestyle. It's…

Mindful – being present and purposeful in your choices.

Creative – finding joy and beauty in what’s already around you.

Healthy – eating whole foods, moving naturally, and connecting with nature.

Connected – sharing, giving, and learning together.

Empowering – building confidence by doing more with less.

It’s not about being perfect. It’s about being playful, curious, and a little more connected to the things we use and the way we live. You’ll be surprised how satisfying it feels to fix, make, or grow something with your own hands.
