Connection Is the New Wellness (and Why It Matters More Than Ever)

Connection Is the New Wellness (and Why It Matters More Than Ever)

There was a time when wellness meant green juice, long walks, and getting enough sleep.

While those things still matter, there’s something just as important, something quieter, but far more powerful.

Connection.

Not the kind we scroll through.
Not the quick “let’s catch up soon.”
But real, meaningful, human connection.

The kind that makes you feel seen.
The kind that changes how you experience your life.

The Missing Piece of Living Well

We’ve become incredibly focused on what we eat, how we move, and how we take care of our bodies.

But many people are still walking around feeling disconnected.

You can do all the “right” things, eat clean, exercise, take supplements and still feel like something is missing.

Wellness isn’t just physical. It’s emotional,  meaningful, and about who you’re sharing your life with.

What the World’s Healthiest Communities Already Know

In places known for longevity, often referred to as Blue Zones, there’s a common thread that shows up again and again.

People are deeply connected. They gather regularly, support one another, and don’t do life alone.

Connection isn’t something they schedule once a month, it’s woven into their everyday lives and it’s not complicated.

It looks like: sharing meals, walking together, checking in on a neighbor and/or having a circle of people you can count on.

It’s simple but powerful.

Why Friendship Changes Everything

As we move through different seasons of life, friendship can become more complicated. We get busy, life shifts, people move, and priorities change. Suddenly, the friendships that once felt easy require more intention.

But here’s the truth:

Friendship doesn’t just happen, we create it.

The most meaningful connections come from being intentional: reaching out, making plans, being open, and showing up consistently.

It’s less about having a large circle and more about having the right one.

A More Intentional Way to Connect

The idea of being intentional about friendship is something I’ve thought a lot about over the years.

Not just how to meet people but how to build relationships that feel real, supportive, and lasting.

This is what inspired me to write my book, Friendship by Design, where I share a more thoughtful approach to creating meaningful connections in midlife and beyond.

The truth is, many women are looking for the same thing: deeper conversations, shared experiences, and a sense of belonging.  They just don’t always know where to start.

The Pura Livin Way

At its core, Pura Livin is about living with intention.

Slowing down, appreciating simple moments, spending time in nature, and most importantly, connecting with others in a real way.

Whether it’s: a walk with a friend, a shared meal, a meaningful conversation, or even traveling together, these are the moments that stay with us. These are the moments that make life feel full.

Bringing It All Together

What if we started looking at connection the same way we look at wellness?

Something we prioritize.
Something we nurture.
Something we build into our lives on purpose.

At the end of the day, it’s not just about how long we live. It’s about how we feel while we’re living and who we’re sharing it with.

A Simple Place to Start

If you’ve been feeling a pull for more connection, you’re not alone.

Start small and reach out to someone, invite someone for coffee or say yes to something new. You don’t need a big plan, just a willingness to begin.

If you’re craving deeper connection and more meaningful friendships, my book, Friendship by Design, is a place to start.

It’s filled with simple, thoughtful ways to build real relationships and find your people in this season of life.
